What I think anything in life comes down to is that if you’ve got enough conviction, you can make a change overnight. You can talk yourself into going slower for a million different reasons but if you’ve got one major reason why you want to go vegan now, then why not go now? In this day in age of plant-based options galore and veganism being a lasting trend, it’s never been easier to do it. And there’s something empowering about quitting something cold turkey and really making something that you want happen. Not to be all braggy and pat myself on the back but when I made the decision to go vegan, I did so overnight and 10 years later, I’m happily vegan.

I don’t see being vegan as a challenge in any way and it has been one of the most rewarding decisions that I’ve ever made. My driving force was the ethics behind veganism and I knew that with common sense, enthusiasm, and taking things as they came, I could successfully navigate the waters without turning back.

If you know that you want to go vegan and you want to do it right now, here are some helpful tips that can help you start your plant-based life immediately.

Get rid of anything that is not vegan

Adios, on repeat! Well since there’s no need for non-vegan items anymore, you might as well nix them ASAP. Give things to a family member, friend or donate food to a local pantry. Think of it as a much-needed kitchen clean-out and a way to make room for all of the healthy, vegan food about to be brought in.

Read new vegan books, blogs, and recipes

You can never possibly run out of vegan information to read. If you don’t know something, within several minutes of searching you can likely find the answer. Books, blogs, recipes, and then some all exist on the internet. Need a great vegan blog that’s full of good ideas? There are millions. In the mood to be inspired by someone going vegan? There’s a blog for that. Want in-depth books that cover different aspects of a vegan lifestyle? No shortage there

Visit vegan-friendly stores

Luckily no matter where you live there is at least one store that sells a decent amount of vegan food. When you start to really look inside grocery stores near you, it’ll be obvious which stores have more options for vegans. And if where you live really feels like a vegan desert, start looking online for vegan brands and vegan stores that ship.

Start Seeing anything that isn’t vegan as if it’s not even Food

When I see food that is not vegan, it’s simply not an option for me. As if it were inedible, it’s something that isn’t even a possibility. I credit this mindset for helping me enjoyably stay vegan and do so without a struggle. I’m genuinely still shocked sometimes when I go somewhere like Chipotle and see a meat option being piled on someone’s burrito bowl. “But excuse me, sir, that’s not edible…” Oh yes, that’s right… they can eat it, but I can’t. And no, I never feel deprived because of this thinking, it has even made me find new amazing things that I never would have tried.

Connect with why you’re so passionate about going vegan

All vegans have that one non-vegan food that we catch a glimpse of and feel a little bit of sadness knowing we can’t have it again. Pizza would probably be that food for me. Yet I can’t say that it’s ever made me crazy knowing I can’t have a regular slice of cheese pizza again. Plus, if the desire gets too strong for it, I just find a vegan pizza somewhere and that does the trick. If you find yourself struggling with foods that you wish you could have, figure out how to make a vegan version and reconnect to why you went vegan in the first place. Remembering why you made this decision in any so-called moments of weakness can help you sail right through them with ease as you return to your beliefs and passion for being vegan.
